The BMW i3 was the first mass production car with most of its internal structure and body made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic.

The vehicle's official range is 130-160 km for the 60 Ah battery option under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), and up to 200 km in the most efficient driving mode ,but this BMW i3 Range Extender ("REx") edition powered by a 647 cc two-cylinder gasoline engine with a small fuel tank that engages when the battery level drops to a pre-specified point, acting purely as a generator to produce electricity to extend the range to 240 km

The BMW i3 includes four doors and seating for four occupants with rear suicide doors. The i3 uses a newly developed powertrain consisting of a 130-kilowatt (170 hp) electric motor running on lithium-ion batteries and driving the rear axle.
